The Deputy Governor of Katsina State, Alhaji Faruk Lawal Jobe, has shared the state government’s innovative approaches to promoting security and preventing extremist ideologies during the 18th African Security Watch Conference held in Doha, Qatar. Addressing an audience of international leaders, security experts, and policymakers, the Deputy Governor outlined measures aimed at fostering peace and safeguarding citizens from being exploited by terrorist groups.  

In his remarks, Alhaji Jobe underscored the state’s commitment to leveraging the influence of religious leaders and scholars to spread awareness about the dangers of extremism and the benefits of communal harmony. "We have deliberately engaged clerics from various backgrounds to educate the public on the importance of peace and the risks associated with falling into the hands of terrorists," he stated.  

The initiative involves organizing sermons in mosques and community centers where religious leaders emphasize unity, mutual respect, and the critical role of peace in societal development. According to the Deputy Governor, this strategy is designed to reshape public perceptions and encourage collective efforts toward achieving sustainable security and development.  

Further elaborating on the state’s efforts, the Deputy Governor highlighted Katsina’s collaboration with community stakeholders, traditional rulers, and security agencies to address the root causes of insecurity. He pointed out that these efforts are yielding positive results, particularly in strengthening community resilience against violent ideologies and fostering an environment of trust and cooperation.  

"The active participation of religious leaders, traditional authorities, and other key players has been instrumental in our success so far," Alhaji Jobe noted. "Their role in bridging gaps within communities and promoting peaceful coexistence cannot be overstated."  

He also called on international partners to support local initiatives aimed at tackling insecurity in regions like Katsina. The Deputy Governor stressed that while governments can implement policies, the involvement of civil society, international organizations, and private entities remains critical in ensuring long-term peace and stability.  

The 18th African Security Watch Conference provided a platform for exchanging ideas and exploring solutions to Africa’s security challenges. Alhaji Jobe’s presentation highlighted Katsina State’s dedication to innovative and community-centered approaches, demonstrating its commitment to creating a safer and more prosperous future for its citizens.
